April 18th, 2021 – The Long Haul To Midway, BC
We rose early to start our drive for the day, the plan for the day was to get to at least Roseland, BC. We got that far and pulled up the weather, it was calling for snowstorms. We found a big pullout and it looked just like any ordinary pullout you would find. After we stopped, we checked the weather there and it was also calling for 15cm of snow. We definitely didn’t want to get stuck in that. That meant we kept driving and ended up making it all the way to Midway, BC.
We remembered there was a campground in Midway that we planned to stay at last summer unfortunately it was booked. Not today! When we pulled in it was empty, and everything was shut off. Guess it’s closed down, but that didn’t stop us from staying there. We had a long drive and needed to sleep. Plus it was getting really windy and made for harder traveling. This was a decent spot to cool off and wind down.
With all the uncertainty of Covid and not knowing exactly what would be open for campsites in BC, we had taken a chance to come all this way and hope we could find something. After we had a little fun by the river, we headed in for supper on the griddle Ruth got us before we left for our trip. While we sat around eating and hanging out, Kevin got a message from his Aunt Shirley in Maple Ridge, BC and she said we should come by and see them since we were so close.
Kevin was pretty excited since he hadn’t seen his cousin Matthew since he was a kid. This entire trip was supposed to be about seeing family and making connections and without even knowing it we got an offer from family we never thought possible. We honestly didn’t know where we would be the next night if they hadn’t offered us to setup camp in their yard. A huge plus was that they lived close to the border we needed to get across to the USA.
Relieved we at least had plans for tomorrow night. We hunkered down for the night and enjoyed our stay next to the river in Midway, BC
