May 23 – 24 • Papa’s Pupu Party and Summer Fun
Sundays is the day Kyle and his family go and spend time with Papa, since we were in town we crashed his Papa Pupu (means appetizers in Hawaiian) Party! Of course we were so excited to be there we didn’t take pictures of the Pupu Party we only got one picture of John and papa enjoying the afternoon. Kyle brought a platter of cheese and watermelon, Papa had shrimp cocktail with super hot horseradish and we brought some crackers and chips. We all had a good time enjoying the warm Sunday weather on the porch. Aunty Jodi even popped by to say hi and chat for a bit.
The jar of horseradish was sitting there just tempting us to try it. One year when Kevin and I went to his SWWA (Saskatchewan Water Conference) for the banquet they had prime rib with the hottest horseradish we ever tasted, so of course we had to taste papa’s horseradish to see if it was just as hot. Kevin started with a taste, and then I had some of it, this raised everyone’s curiosity. The boys had to start contest to who could eat it, Noah and Joseph put a big scoop on a cracker and ate it, it burned their noses and Noah started coughing. Zachariah then had to try it but, it didn’t bother him as much he loved it and kept eating it.
After a couple hours Kyle and the older boys left, Kevin, the little kids and I stayed to hang out with Papa for the afternoon. He had supper plans with Aunt Jodi so we just stayed until he had to leave for supper. It was a really nice and relaxing afternoon, just spending time with family and hearing all of papa’s stories. I know I have heard a few of them more then once but, there is always a new one I haven’t heard. He told us all about all the dogs he owned in his life and how Butch his first dog was still his favourite. It is pretty awesome to be able to spend time like this with my Papa (who is my Grandpa on my Dad’s side). I know other people don’t even have their grandparents in their life and to have him in our life and our kids life sure is a blessing.
Kevin and I decided to head for supper on the way back to the campsite. We went to TAPS Brewery + Kitchen which was only about 5 mins from our campground at Canyon RV Park. We ordered the Chicken Pesto Pizza, which was amazing! Lita was upset at first we didn’t order her chicken strips but, once the food came out she couldn’t believe how good it was. I find with kids sometimes you just have to force them to try new things, it is so easy to just allow them to eat the same thing every time you eat. Kevin and I both tried a couple beers from tap and it was actually a really good craft beer brewery. We have tried many craft beers and there are lots we haven’t liked. There is so much that goes in to brewing craft beer its like having a good cup of coffee, everything matters from the water to the temperature. We both felt like this brewery had it although there was one beer we both like the best my favourite was End To End Burners and Kevin’s was Checkerboard Blue.
After supper we headed back for an early night and to get the kids all settled into bed. Daisy messaged me with a picture of Noah feeding her new bird.
The next day we needed to get laundry done and it was supposed to be a hot day, we figured it would be the best day to take advantage of Kyle and Daisy’s pool. We loaded up all the laundry, Lita’s school and what we needed for a hot afternoon of swimming then headed to Kyle’s house for the day. We got all the laundry done and then headed out to swim. I’m pretty sure this was the hottest day we had the entire time we were in Southern California. While we swam, Joseph and Noah got to go to Daisy’s work and celebrate Hawaiian shirt day.
Our day ended by having a family supper, playing games, spending time with family and the kids playing with the birds. Overall it was a pretty awesome day!
