May 14-19 • Family, the Real Purpose to Life
When we started this journey we had planned all along to go and spend time with my Papa. (My grandpa on my dads side) We have never been in a position that we could take this time and really spend it with family. Life is short and we only have a limited amount of time left, I mean tomorrow could be our last day. With joyful hearts we are super blessed to have this opportunity to spend time with my family. Many of you know that when I met Kevin, I lived in Las Vegas, NV and he lived in Watson, Saskatchewan. Through lots of moves and changes the kids and I relocated to Canada in 2015. Although I loved Canada and the journey the hardest thing for me was being away from my family. I have always felt that I have been really close to my family but, living so far away makes it really hard to see and spend time with them.
With that opening to todays post, this week was a lot of family time spent. On, Friday we went down to my brothers house for supper. We were still staying at the Pyramid Lake RV site which was only 161km away, which doesn’t seem like much, but in LA traffic it took us over 3 hours. We had stayed at the campsite in the morning to do school and get ahead on daily life things we ended up leaving around 11:30am and had to run a couple errands in town along the way. We figured it wouldn’t be too bad as the last time it only took 2 hours to get to Kyle’s house, well we were wrong and got stuck in massive traffic. Siri thought it would be fun to reroute us through the most ghetto parts of the city on the way through. You could say we had the scenic route, I mean Siri did say she saved us 1.5 hours of drive time, but really who could know these things.
Once we made it through all the traffic we arrived at Kyle’s house around 5:30pm. Kevin and I then got to go on a special Costco run with Kyle to get all the cool things we can’t get in Canada and see all the amazing prices on things and be in shock at how much money we saved and yet we still spent a lot of money. We then headed back to make supper and hang out with Kyle and his family. Joseph played us a concert….
John took a bit to warm up to Uncle Kyle although once he did now Uncle Kyle is his favourite. Uncle Kyle and Aunty Daisy had a car toy he could play with so he had a blast sending it down the hallway to Uncle Kyle.
After hours of laughter and fun we needed to head back as it was a 2 hour drive back to our campsite. Of course Noah and Malachi didn’t want to join us they wanted to stay with Joseph and Zachariah. Kevin, the little kids and I headed back to our campsite and got back around 11pm. It was a late night for Lita and John and we knew they were going to need a day to rest and recoup from all they fun they had.
My sister Melissa and her husband Sunep drove all the way out to our campsite on Saturday evening after a long day at work to have supper with us. It was a good time to connect but, everyone was exhausted and it ended on an early night. On, Sunday Kevin and I cleaned the campsite and got ready for our move on Monday and spent the rest of the day relaxing and getting our energy back from all the running around and crazy traffic. Noah and Malachi had a great weekend with their cousins and even got to go and have Pupus (Hawaiian for appetizers) with Papa on Sunday.
Monday couldn’t come fast enough to be totally honest, we had almost no cell coverage and no wifi at the campsite we had been staying at. The work we need to do relies heavily on internet access so to say this week was long was an understatement, guess this was a good learning lesson that we need to be sure we have way better coverage! The good thing was the move wasn’t a really big one it took about 2 hours to get to the next site we would be staying at a week so we could be closer to my Papa, brother and sister.
After we got camp all setup we had to do some of our work and run some errands. It was a pretty eventless day as far as moving campsites go. We went and had supper at my brothers house and picked our older kids up to come spend sometime with us and they needed to finish their school work. The next morning we enjoyed the weather and did school outside at the picnic table. I can say one of my favourite things about homeschool is that we can do it anywhere. When the wether is good we can be outside and sometimes we even just learn on the road. The journey to watch our kids learn has been one of my favourites.
After we got all the school work done, we headed down to my Papa’s house. We brought some lunch with us and got to spend the entire afternoon with him while Kevin did some work. Lita has a nut allergy and something she ate ended up giving her a reaction, but since we have seen her have reactions before I knew we had to do something ASAP. My papa took me up town to the CVS Pharmacy and we got her Benadryl right away. When we got back Kevin still hadn’t been back so my papa and I decided to go get some Chick-Fil-A for supper for the kids and us. It was a really relaxing afternoon, my papa had me pull out all the photos books my nana made and he told me about all the family and friends in the books. These are some of the moments I cherish the most, family history is so important to me and learning about what my Nana and Papa did and what things they did with their kids is really neat. Of, course I didn’t get any pictures with papa cause I always forget but I did get one of John jumping around on his couches and Malachi with Ginger my papas best friend.
On the 19th, we decided we should get our life together and do the laundry from the last 2 weeks. My brother was so generous to allow us to wash clothes at his house, I don’t think he realized how much laundry we had! We started laundry at 11:30am and didn’t finish till 8:00pm! Of, course the amazing host my brother is he made an awesome meal! I don’t remember what we ate every time we went but, it was so good every time! We did have Kyle’s famous slow cooked baby back ribs and some awesome BBQ chicken. The older boys decided at this point they want to stay with their cousins. That about wraps up these week. I know this post was a bit longer then normal but I wanted to get things updated on the blog and try to make sure I didn’t leave much out.
I can say life on the road so far has had some ups and downs. We do have a leak under our sink cause of too high of water pressure and we forgot to put the water regulator on. We also got some ants from the campsite we are staying in which is super frustrating. But, overall the experience has been really good. I know this lifestyle isn’t for everyone, but so far it has been a really neat experience for us. We do look forward to exploring the country more and being able to take the kids to new things and sights. These last few weeks have been more family focused meaning it was all about visiting and seeing family. I have loved watching my kids spend time with our family and how much they all just love this time together is great. We have a really awesome family, I can say I really do miss my Canadian family and with I could have brought them along with us but, guess you can’t have everything all at once. My heart is full and blessed I’m really thankful my husband made this happen it has been so amazing.
