April 20-21, 2021 – Preparing to Cross the Border

On Tuesday, we headed to Abbotsford, BC to get Kevin’s Covid test. He had to have his test done within 72hrs of his flight, and we booked his flight for April 22nd at 7:35pm. Going to the city seemed to take the entire day.So we got his test, ran a few errands and got lunch with the family. We then headed back to spend the evening with Kevin’s family. After, supper we all hung out in Matt’s garage which had a perfect setup for hanging out. Pretty sure it is Kevin’s dream garage. He even had a pinball machine and pool table. We all had a good time getting to know each other and really were happy to spend time with this family. Angel and Matt’s boys got along so well with our kids. It really is nice to hang out with families that everyone gets along and hangs out so well together.

On Wednesday we needed to get basic groceries before we hit the road again on Thursday. We wanted to thank Kevin’s family by preparing supper, so we went and got all the fixings for some home-made burgers and hotdogs. This time we went to Maple Ridge, BC to go shopping, it was much smaller and easier to get around then Abbotsford. We had a really nice relaxing evening and big family supper with everyone. I really wish we took a picture of where the camper was parked because, they had the perfect setup for us and we had privacy all while still being able to spend time with family.

We spent the afternoon getting caught up on school work while still trying to get our schedule figured out while traveling and getting school work done. It actually has worked pretty well up to this point, but some days are harder since we have so many other things to get done. The best part is that we homeschool, so we get to make our own schedule. If it doesn’t get done today, there is always tomorrow to do the leftover work.

This is just the beginning of the journey for us and we already learned so much about what we needed and wanted for our camper. First thing we forgot….a broom. What the heck how did we not bring a broom?!? We had a mop and a vacuum but not a broom?! That meant I had to get on my knees the first couple days to get the floors swept. I’ll say getting a broom was my top priority.

We really enjoyed the time we got to spend time with Matt, Angel, Shirley, Dennis, and Gord. It was good for Kevin to meet family he didn’t meet before and reconnect with family he already knew. Our kids love hanging out and getting to know their cousins. I can say we will for sure come back for a visit with our family in Maple Ridge, BC. Thank you again for your hospitality, we really appreciate everything.
