February 14 • Valentines in Nashville

Day 2 in Nashville started out relaxing and slow. For me, the best part of a vacation without kids is not having to worry about anyone else and just taking care of myself. I’m a morning person and Kevin is not with that being said it made it easy for me to sneak out and go to the gym in the morning. Then I brought coffee back, for coffee in bed before we headed to the pool at the hotel. The pool was the reason we decided to stay at this hotel because it was half inside and the other half was outside but to our disappointment, it wasn’t heated quite enough for our liking. After we swam a couple of laps we decided we would just hang out in the jacuzzi before really starting our day.

One of the things we wanted to be sure we did while we were in Nashville was The Johnny Cash Museum. Once we got dressed and ready we ordered an Uber and headed down to the Johnny Cash Bar and BBQ for some good BBQ. The food wasn’t the best we ever had but the sauces they had were amazing. I wish I would have gotten some of it to go! Once we finished up eating we headed to the museum. We learned so much about Johnny Cash and his history. It is always interesting learning the history behind musicians and their families. We both really enjoyed the museum and decided we would head to the Ryman Auditorium which was where the original Grand Ole Opry show started, but when we got there they were already closing so that would have to wait for another day. We had to get back to our hotel and get ready for our Valentine’s dinner date anyway.

We booked a dinner cruise on the General Jackson Showboat for our Valentine’s date. We are not always good at planning but one thing I’ve learned in the past is that on days like Valentine when everyone goes out we need to plan. So I did make reservations for this boat ahead of time and we were really looking forward to it. It was a 3-hour dinner cruise and it took us from The Grand Ole Opry to Downtown Nashville. I got some pictures of us before we got on and on top of the deck when we got to downtown Nashville but of course, I forgot to get a picture of the dining room. We sat at a table with 4 other couples and had a great time with the live entertainment. When we got back we decided the night was still young and we would head back to Downtown Nashville to finish off our night.

We waited for an Uber driver to take us to Downtown Nashville and we started out at Ole Red Nashville. The music was good and the atmosphere was our kind of jam but to our dismay, they shut down after we were there for about 30 mins. We weren’t feeling the pub-crawling we just wanted to find a good spot to hang out and have a good time. We walked down the strip and popped into a few places to see if we were feeling the music and nothing was really feeling right. We kept going all the way to the end and stopped at Legends Corner and it was the band we saw the night before at a different bar. You know the one that I got Kevin to dance at. Well, that was a good sign, so we decided to stay.

We were just getting settled when Kevin said he heard someone say Saskatchewan. (If you are from Saskatchewan you know when someone says your home province name.) He pointed to the table across from us and said someone there is from Saskatchewan. Of course, the good wife that I am I walked over and asked and sure enough one of the ladies was from Saskatchewan and the other was from Manitoba. I told Kevin before we went to Nashville we would find someone from Saskatchewan so this just made us laugh. Good band and good company meant we would be here till the bar closed down. Being in the Canadian mood Kevin bet the band $100 that they couldn’t play 5 songs from Canadian artists. Well, they proved him wrong and did 5 songs here is one of the hits here. We would like to thank Aaron Patrick and his band for a super fun night!

I think around 2:00 am the bar had to shut down and we got an Uber then headed back to the hotel for some pickles, crackers, and cheese. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day! We don’t get much time with just Kevin and me to just spend time together and this really was the best Valentine’s day I think we have had this far.
