August 1st – 15th • Wrapping up in Texas
I just wanted to point out this is the second blog I have written this week for those who are counting! There has been a bit of back and forth on the blog from past to present. Until I get fully caught up I will be playing a bit of catch-up. Life homeschooling 4 kids, running a business, and getting settled into a routine is hard work. Although there are no complaints here as we are really living the best life we can. It just might take me a bit to get all my thoughts together and on the blog. Hope you can all keep up with us on this journey.
In the last, “past” blog post I went over the details of getting our new home in Iowa. After we did that we still had to drive back to Springtown, Texas to get our camper, and the tractors we had in a storage unit down there, meaning we would have to take two trips back to Springtown to get all out items. We also had a big perdiciment that we didn’t have a trailer, so on the trip down we had to make a bunch of stops trying to find a trailer that would work. It took us 3 days to get back to Springtown with all the stops and troubles fidning a trailer. We got back to Spring town by August 4th, to be honest, I don’t remember the exact date as some of these things become a blur. But, my photos are time-stamped and I have an amazing picture of Malachi’s crepe creation he made so that is where we will begin.
We had a large campsite in Springtown, Texas for the month of July and the first week of August, we also rented two storage units to store all the tractors we had purchased. Before we went to California to spend time with my Papa we had to get this all sorted out. We left the Toterhome in Creston, IA for the trip down to pick up the camper and get a few tractors sold. Our campsite was always full even though it was a large site. If there was space we figured out how to fill it up.
While we were down there for the first week of August one of my friends from Las Vegas lived a couple hours away and we were able to get together with her and her girls. It was fun catching up on old times. We met up with them for lunch on one of our down days before we had to head back to Creston with our camper.
Even though we were in Springtown for over a month we did have much time for exploration. Kevin was always off galavanting accross the nation and the kids and I did lots of swimming at the pool. After we had lunch we went to do some exploring and spend the rest of the afternoon at a local beach. Of course I didn’t get pictures of everyone jumping off the dock and swimming but I did get a picture when we first got there. It was a nice hot day and we enjoyed our last swim before we would be leaving Texas.
The next day we loaded the camper up to take back to Creston and put the last couple tractors in our storage unit to come back and get on our way to Cali. We pretty much cannon balled it back to Iowa then stayed at a local campground for the night. First thing in the morning we got the camper all setup in our shop. Then got in the Toterhome all lodaded up and ready to go! We had to head back to Springtown to get our tractors and trailer then we would take the long haul to California.
When covering so many miles in so little time the timeline tends to blur together. Not sure the exact dates, but, I know we left Creston for the second time on August 13th and headed straight to Decatur, Texas. We spent the night there and then headed to Springtown to get our tractor and trailer all loaded up. Our first stop was Socorro, NM where we met a customer. We did a quick stop in Holbrook, Arizona then took a long trek down to Cathedral City, CA. We completed our journey to Southern California on August 16 where we would stay for 2 weeks before moving completly into our home in Iowa.
