May 12-13 As Told by Malachi
The last post was written by Noah and today will be by Malachi. I’m so excited you get to see the view point of the boys as well. I can’t tell you how proud I am of these kids and how much I love them. They have been what keeps me going everyday. See this life may seem crazy to everyone who reads about our life but, the kids are what makes it all worth It in the end. We are so blessed to have 5 amazing kids to keep us going from day to day. I couldn’t imagine our life without them. Life is about family, we feel it’s important to have our kids know their history as much as we want to spend time with our kids. Noah and Malachi are super talented teens that I’m so happy you get to see their talents in writing. Here is todays post from Malachi….

Today we decided to go and see our family in California that I haven’t seen in a very long time so we got loaded up and headed for the hills. After a short 1 ½ hour drive we arrived at our Papa’s house and ate some amazing chicken, fresh raspberries and cake (that I couldn’t have). We took the kids to the park, then as soon as we got to the park John had to go poop so we had to walk all the way back. Afterwards we went out and picked some avocados from his avocado trees with a really cool avocado picker thingy. I had a pretty great time and I think all of the family did too.
Later on we arrived at our cousin’s house that had a really big pool that I was excited to swim in so went swimming. Afterwards, we ate supper, they made the best chicken I have ever had. Then our cousin, Joseph, ripped it up on the piano playing the song “Moonlight Sonata”. Later we went home super late at night. Everyone was so tired we all just passed out.

So today, Dad had the idea to go swimming in a huge lake named Lake Hughes. It was only 45 minutes away from our campsite, so we grabbed all of our swim gear, and left for a journey. We were driving for quite a while when we came across an abandoned campsite covered in leaves and the sites were a complete disaster. Noah, Dad, and Mom went to check out and they wouldn’t let me get out but I don’t know why. When they went down there there was a creek where the river was supposed to be, at the time we didn’t think much of it and soon moved on.
Driving about 20 minutes later we passed a sign reading Lake Hughes. We all excitedly look outside the windows to see it. Then we passed the humongous lake on the map. With all of us confused, we drove on passing two other lakes, one a swampy marsh, and the other was completely dried up leaving only a salty lake bed behind. Stunned by the sight we drove back to Lake Hughes to find that the reason why we couldn’t find it was because it too was dried up.
Disappointed by the lake Dad found a reservoir so we could at least swim for a little bit which was pretty exciting. It was 20 minutes away so we headed off for our next swimming destination. Then after about 20 minutes of driving we arrive to find that the entire reservoir is fenced off by a fence that goes all the way around the reservoir. Sadly we didn’t go swimming that day, we just stopped at a mini market on the way back for some groceries.
