June 6th • White Sands and Smokey Bear National Park
Todays post is written by Malachi Misiurski
Today we were going to go to the White Sands National Park. This morning we all woke up pretty early so we could get a head start on our drive to the White Sands National Park. Our Mother made John, Lita, and Me breakfast because it was easier to make us breakfast than to go out for breakfast. After all three of us ate all of our meals we packed up all our water, snacks and got in the truck to set off for the Park. When we got there we took a quick picture by the National Park sign at the front of the gift shop. We checked out the gift shop real quick and got a couple of postcards for our family.
Then we drove through to the pay station where mother showed her America the Beautiful card and we got in. After we got through the pay station we started down the road to see the most bright thing I have ever seen in my entire lifetime (The sands were actually so white that it hurt your eyes to look at it!!). We all got out of the truck, ran up a small hill of the white sand, we all took off our sandals and it was so soft. All of us shook off the sand from our shoes and got back in the truck. While we were there we saw a huge camel, I don’t know if it was the normal size or if it was small but it seemed like it was so enormous.
After all of us had lunch we started off to the next museum, the Smokey The Bear Museum. Before we got there we saw this giant pistachio, actually, it was the largest pistachio in the world. all of us took a bathroom break then Mother, Father, and Noah got some pistachio ice cream (which Lita and I couldn’t have and John was being a brat so he didn’t get any). We arrived then walked in and waited for our mother to pay the fees to get into the exhibits. After that, we saw the really cool old Smokey The Bear posters. We all read some Smokey The Bear posters, we went into a small theater room to watch a short film about Smokey The Bear and fire precautions while making and putting out a fire.
Following that short movie we went into another exhibit where it told us about the importance of fire safety and how to properly put out campfires. In that room we saw one of the most epic models I have ever seen, It was so cool. It was super realistic, there was a mini house and it looked like it was a real house that was shrunk down to a tiny size. There were little people smaller than my fingernail and even they were super detailed. They made a river made of epoxy and a lake which they made so you could just barely see the lakebed. We walked through the rest of the exhibit hall which was all about fire and how it starts 9/10 of the time from humans and 1/10 of the time from natural sources.
On the car ride back to the campsite I don’t remember because I fell asleep the entire time. But when I woke up we were at a restaurant called Hot Stuff, I got out and headed into the restaurant. I have been on a food sensitivity diet for 6 months so I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to eat the food. But when we were set up at our table I was actually able to eat the food!! Afterward, we went shopping at the nearby Walmart and got some snacks and other necessities. We then got a red box movie which was Wonder Woman 84 and we watched it that night. It was pretty good but we finished it at 12:00 and we were all pretty tired so we went to bed right afterward.
