July 7th-11th • Texas to Wyoming Roadtrip
With life settling in now and school in full swing, I’m finding more time to get you all updated on the blog. We are loving Iowa so far and the house is great too. It has been amazing for school and having a stationary place to call our home at this point. The kids have so much space to run around and play, Kevin has a real shop he can work in on his projects and I have a real kitchen. One of the things I didn’t realize would be the hardest living in a camper was the lack of space and not having a full-size kitchen.
We did a lot of traveling this summer, it’s funny how when I look back at our photos and sit down to write these blogs how much I have forgotten that we did this year. The trip always starts with a deal to be had since we have been following deals and getting our business set up to sell tractors. This week’s special is in Wyoming and that means it is time for a family road trip from Texas to Wyoming.
On this trip, we took a jaunt down to Socorro, NM for a sale on the way to our purchase in Gillette, WY. Kevin will normally do these longer trips on his own, but we decided after he was gone so much with his last trips we would make a family trip out of this one. It is pretty awesome that we are able to do this traveling all while we build our business. We dropped off the first tractor with a lady in New Mexico at her farm. On the drive to New Mexico to Texas, we saw tons of flooding along the way. In places that were dry just a few weeks prior to the rain, it was flooded and the gorges were flowing from all the torrential downpours. The lady we delivered the tractor to had massive flooding just the day prior to us arriving. All the sand birms were washed out and her house trailer that was on cynder blocks was sinking due to the ground being washed out. This tractor will help her tons as she has been homesteading and doing everything with traditional tools like a shovel. It’s always so rewarding to deliver to people that really appreciate it and we know will benefit from our delivery.
I’ve realized writing this blog that I haven’t kept enough notes from this trip to remember everything. With that being said I’m doing my best with the help of the kids and talking about where we went and what we did to make sure I get as many details as possible. This is a little off topic but, I had to figure out how to get this really cool picture of the grasshopper on the tractor wheel in the blog today.
This first part of the trip consited of lots and lots of driving. We stayed in New Mexico the first night, then Wyoming the next night. We then had a jaunt of a drive to get the tractor we headed out to purchase and back to Chyenne, WY for the night. I can’t say there was much exciting about this portion of the trip lots of sleeping, reading and games in the backseat. One thing that is pretty cool is when we do these trips we all have a lot of good conversations and Lita is sure to teach us all the capitals of every state. The license plate game had to get adjusted since we do so much driving and see so many states. When we play the game if you see an out of state plate it has to be a different state then we are in at the time and you have to tell the capital of that state to get the point. Lita and Noah are getting relly good at knowing all the caoitals and sooner or later the entire family should have them memorized.
This trip is not even halfway done at this point but, this blog post is coming to an end and you will have to watch for the next post where we will be entering Kansas, Misouri, Iowa and Illinois. We did take a few days off for some fun exploring so be sure to come back and see what all we got to see along the way.
